Marine Management Organisation Relaunch the Fisheries and Seafood Scheme
The Marine Management Organisation (MMO) has relaunched the Fisheries and Seafood Scheme to safeguard the long-term sustainability, resilience and prosperity of the English seafood sector.
The Government has set aside at least £6 million in funding for each year until April 2025.
The scheme aims to provide financial assistance for programmes that help develop the catching, processing, and aquaculture industries. It also includes projects to improve the marine environment.
The FaSS is open to individuals, businesses, local authorities, universities, research institutes or new entrants to the industry.
The MMO bases funding levels on the activity you or your company undertakes and its impact on the sector. Qualifying projects will aim to achieve the following outcomes:
- Creating a more sustainable and resilient industry;
- Boosting the demand for English seafood and accessing new markets;
- Improving participation through co-design and co-management;
- Achieving good environmental status through the conservation and restoration of the marine environment;
- Supporting net zero through reducing emissions within the industry
The MMO will administer the scheme on behalf of Defra. Applications can be made at any time.
